Come hang out and make a clay flute!
Remember Totoro’s nighttime melody atop the camphor tree, in My Neighbor Totoro? Or Link's sequence of notes to teleport in Zelda: Ocarina of Time? Did you know the ocarina is a real musical instrument? It’s a super old kind of flute, though it goes by different names in different cultures.
Pietro, the Gibson’s Curator of Learning, wants to make an ocarina out of air-dried clay. He’s never done it before, and there’s a chance it’s harder than it looks. If you’d like to try making your own, join Pietro in the Gibson’s Tuey Art Studio.
We can promise air-dried clay and snacks. And hopefully, with some determination and patience, our ocarinas will make music too!
Adults are welcome to hang out on the couches by the fireplace in the Gibson’s Salon.
Please note: Upon registering, a parent or guardian will need to sign a consent form on behalf of their teen.
Generously supported by the Tuey Charitable Foundation, the Deux Mille Foundation, and Friends of the Gibson.
