Music on the Mountain

Join us as we launch Music on the Mountain, a new live performance series at the Gibson that brings together some of Metro Vancouver’s most exciting musicians in an intimate cabaret-style setting. Enjoy exceptional live music, socialize with friends, and savour a glass of wine and a snack, surrounded by contemporary art.

For our inaugural Music on the Mountain event, we’re excited to partner with VanJazz ’26 to present the Madeline Elkins Trio. Elkins is one of Vancouver’s most distinctive emerging jazz guitarists, whose playing combines lyrical melodies, adventurous improvisation, and rich guitar textures, to create music that is both adventurous and deeply melodic.

VanJazz ’26 is a joint initiative of Tim Reinert (Infidels Jazz) and Cory Weeds (Cellar Music), generously supported by the Vancouver Jazz Orchestra Society.

Vancouver-based guitarist Madeleine Elkins writes intricate compositions at the crossroads of jazz, folk, and rock. Named by The Vancouver Sun as one of “10 Vancouver music acts to watch in 2026,” she has been described as “one of the freshest and most varied” players in the city. Elkins is carving out a bold new voice in the Canadian contemporary jazz scene, regularly touring Western Canada as a guitarist in support of independent artists. She has performed with Mali Obomsawin, Wayne Horvitz, Kaïa Kater, Madelyn Read, Maddisun, the Sister Jazz Orchestra, Meredith Louise, Frankie and the Juicebox, Zan Fiskum, and many more.

Elkins’ current focus as a bandleader is her trio, featuring William Chernoff on bass and Kevin Romain on drums. She released her debut album, Brighton Train, with this trio in 2025 on the Infidels Jazz label. Inspired by exploratory artists like Bill Frisell and Mary Halvorson, Elkins merges contemporary jazz with modern bluegrass and post-punk guitar sounds, often using a guitar riff as the central theme of a composition. Based in East Vancouver, she has established herself as a mainstay in the city’s music community.
