The Marianne and Edward Gibson Art Museum is thrilled to announce the launch of its new Curatorial Fellows Program.
Grounded by Simon Fraser University’s long-held commitment to interdisciplinarity and experimental pedagogies, we envision the Gibson to be an incubator for dynamic, cross-disciplinary curatorial research with a special focus on British Columbian art practices and their global resonance. Supporting critically-engaged curatorial research—which surfaces new knowledge about under-recognized artists, brings fresh perspectives to the work of known practices, and asks pressing questions about histories and the current moment—plays a key role in the Gibson's work to support visual art and artists.
The Gibson’s Curatorial Fellows Program creates the framework for ambitious early career and established curators (local, national and international, and prioritizing underrepresented practitioners) to undertake research that leads to realized exhibitions, publications, commissions and/or public programming at the Gibson Art Museum.
The successful Fellow will join the Gibson’s team full-time in early 2027 for a three-year term to develop and realize a series of exhibitions and public programs. Participating fully in the Gibson’s operations and planning processes, Fellows will benefit from the rich pedagogical context of our university, the SFU Art Collection, and the many academic partners with whom the Gibson collaborates.
